The profile of spectators in Brazil
In accordance with a survey carried out by Ipsos/Marplan, 54% of Brazilians never go to soccer stadiums, even though it has been identified that 100 million supporters exist in Brazil.

For the majority of the clubs today, the average attendance per game is less than 0.5% of its supporters. The occupation rate of stadiums in the Brazilian Championship during 2006 was only approximately one third.

Other research shows that of those that stay at home 64.3% watch the games on TV and only 16.3% listen on radio.

What changed?
20 Years ago radio was ahead of TV and the great majority of supporters went to Stadiums.
The Social Profile of those Attending
Another problem: those who show the most interest in soccer are the lower paid groups:
  • 69% are within Groups C and D
  • 25% are within Group B
  • Only 3% are within Group A
The overall breakdown of supporters is as follows:
  • Mostly men: 71% of the spectators are male and only 29% are female.
  • Few young people: 46% are older than 35.
  • Less graduates: Only 13% completed a university degree course.
  • Low monthly income: 78% has a monthly income less than the minimum salary.
